We offer a variety of classes for students from as young as 3 years old up to young adult and beyond. Students are taught in a wholesome and encouraging atmosphere, where their skill and technique are improved upon through education, practice, and performance.
The following classes are currently being offered at Soul Steps Dance Company:
- Pointe (instructor approval required)
- Hip Hop
- Boys Hip Hop
Students will advance based upon Instructor’s approval only. This is decided by skill and developmental capabilities.
Pre-Pointe is for students 10.5 + who have had at least 2 years of ballet. Students should be able to execute a proper releve with correct form without reminder. They should have good balance and a love for Ballet. Let me know via text if your student is adding interested in adding Pre-Pointe.
Students need to have 2 + years of Ballet and at least 1 year of Pre-Pointe. Approval is needed to get pointe shoes. We will not put anyone in pointe that isn’t physically ready. Pointe is the most difficult technique of dance and you should make sure your students are willing to work hard. Everything about it is more work (and money) than the others. Our Pointe dancers are averaging 3 pairs of shoes per year (some more) and they are 100.00 per pair. Any student getting their shoes this year needs to continue with Pre-Pointe in addition to taking my Pointe class until I approve them to move to Pointe only.
Acro is NOT gymnastics and our focus will be building strength and flexibility in our dancers to aid them in dance, not just tumbling tricks.
- Beginner: This class will start with the basics of handstands, cartwheels, and backbends. There will be a lot of strength and flexibility drills to go with these skills. Even if you already have the skill, there is always rooms for improvement with shaping and positioning.
- Intermediate: This class will focus on progressing off of cartwheels and beginning backbend kick-overs. It will also utilize handstands into more skills/shapes There will be body shaping/conditioning to work on the strength needed to build upon these skills.
- Competition Intermediate: This class will get into back walkovers, front walkovers, side aerials, and back handsprings. Before anyone works on actual skills there will be a series of drills and conditioning to go through. If the child does not have the strength and body shaping for the skill then they will need to continue working on the drills. There will be a lot of repetition in this class to get the results the dancers want!
